The foursome bicker and bond in between killing zombies, and pretty soon Columbus figures he might have a chance with the pretty older sister. Together they decide on a road trip to a paradise rumored to have no zombies - a California theme park called Pacific Playland (played by Wild Adventures park in Valdosta, Ga.). And then some.īefore too long, they stumble upon a couple of other canny survivors, young sisters (Emma Stone of "Superbad" and Abigail Breslin of "Little Miss Sunshine") who have "trust issues." You'll see. It's the beginning of a beautiful friendship, and Eisenberg, with his Michael Cera-like tics and stammers, and Harrelson, with his outsized swagger, play it for all it's worth. The two guys are opposites, but pretty soon they find that each completes the other. Funny - it turns out that when the zombie apocalypse is upon us, Escalades and Hummers will actually have a practical use. On a deserted highway littered with wrecks, Columbus meets Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), a tough-guy zombie-killing expert with a Dale Earnhardt fixation he paints a "3" on the sides of the monster-size SUVs he appropriates. ![]() Then there's rule number one: You need to have good cardio, because "the first ones to go were the fatties." (Yes, these are the nimble variety of zombies, not George Romero's lurching nightmares.) In a comical narration, he presents them as the rules of zombieland, and they include the advice, above, on seat belts and flexibility. Jesse Eisenberg is Columbus, a World of Warcraft-playing, shut-in virgin college student with a long list of neuroses that have helped him survive the ravenous undead. The audience I saw it with gave it a huge round of applause at the end, and it deserved it: As zombie comedies go, it's not quite "Shaun of the Dead," but it has nothing to be ashamed about. ![]() Those are just a few of the things you'll learn in "Zombieland," a smart, gory and often drop-undead funny movie that dunks us straight into that apocalypse and gets out in 81 minutes - well before it's worn out its welcome. ![]() You'd be surprised at how important it is, when the zombie apocalypse is upon us, that you wear seat belts, stay limber and take time to enjoy the little things in life. ![]()
